AFETES - PELION ( PILIO ) - GREECE
Afetes or Niaou, which was the name of the village in the old days, is a small, picturesque mountainous village 27km from Volos. It is built in the form of an amphitheatre with olive groves and the view of Afissos and the Pagasitic Gulf from here is magnificent.
The large paved main square offers shade and cool under the plain trees in the hot summer months. There are two tavernas where you can enjoy a tasty meal.
On the other side of the square is the church of Ai-Yiannis, which was built by the architect Dimos Zapaniotis from Hipitos.
At the entrance to the village near to the main parking facilities, is a path that, if you follow it, will take you on a beautiful walk. This walk ends at the beach of Abovou in Afissos.
