AHILLIO - PELION ( PILIO ) - GREECE
This village by the sea is 66km from Volos and 6km from Pteleos. The previous older village was built on a hill about 7km from the current village and was called "Hamako", after the mother of Ali-Pasa (during the Turkish invasion).
This woman who was named Hamako really loved the village and was always helping the villagers. Because of this, they named the village after her. She also gave all of her fortune to the people of the village.
In 1916 the village fled from its location and was rebuilt where Ahillio stands today, which is actually on the ruins of the Byzantine city of Nicopolis.
In Ahillio there is a large and beautiful beach, and a wide selection of tavernas and fish restaurants right by the sea that serve fresh fish caught by the local fishermen.
During the summer, a sail line operates which connects the village with the North Sporades. This is the perfect excuse for a day trip. If you travel south about 8km you will find the small village of Ag. Dimitrios. Here you will find a large sandy beach and a choice of tavernas and restaurants. During August, cultural shows take place.
